I made an initial appointment to have my teeth cleaned. We discussed and agreed on the phone that I would not be having any x-rays taken. When I showed up for my appointment I was immediately pushed to have unnecessary x-rays. I explained that I was just there to have my teeth cleaned, but the receptionist was incredibly rude and demanded that they perform x-rays on me even though no one even bothered to look at my teeth and I have never had any problems. This is just a way for dentist to increase what they bill even though it increases the patient's risk of getting cancer. See, Washington Post article, "Excessive dental X-rays can expose patients to unnecessary radiation and expense." If they are going to try to force you to have x-rays, they should at least tell you that upfront when you make the appointment.
