friendly and safe. Unfortunately gyms mostly get judged by the caliber of their customers, not staff. Fortunately the Y attracts a wonderfully diverse clientele and for the most part the experts and muscle-heads are tolerant of beginners and older folks. I had a one on one personal training series and can say that Staff here are great.

The Oakland Y used to be good before the pandemic, but now there are so few classes I'd like to take and the gym is swamped with teenagers on their phones. The community feel is gone with the replacement of classes with equipment that only people ages 30 and younger use. I only continue my membership because it's inexpensive, but I am not sure I am getting my money's worth.
