Very disappointed in Big Dave’s post-sales service. For example, on the first day after the sale, my chain was touching the front derailleur changer, causing rattling. When I called Dave, he tried his best to keep me from coming in. He tried several lines on me to try to deter me from coming back in, including the following: I was in the wrong gear combination. (No) I was using low gear on flat terrain, and the noise would go away when I went uphill. (No) The chain can rattle around. (No, on I was on smooth pavement) Big Dave then had the chutzpah to suggest I wait until my first service before I brought in, even though this is a matter of turning one of the two adjustment screws on the derailleur. I like supporting local businesses vs. large companies, but in this case, you’re better off buying from a Trek-owned store backed by their reputation and customer service and financial wherewithal, and is backed by Trek customer service, customer-oriented policies, and financial resources. Therefore Trek-owned stores don’t have to be so sales-focused. For example: • Trek stores book one-on-one appointments to meet inside the store, vs, Big Dave, who sells out of his parking lot with no system to keep track of who is next to served, as there is no line. • Trek offers a 30-day satisfaction return policy. Big Dave, on the other hand, asks for a 20% restocking fee for a return within three days of the sale. This is despite the Trek website, as did the Trek telephone rep., states Trek retailers do have the same guarantee policy. • Many Trek stores offer minor minor-repair appointments while you wait even in during the COVID crisis, time permitting. Big Dave’s does not. • Trek owned stores will either give you the serial # for registering your new bike with Trek, or will do it for you. Big Dave does it if you call him, he tells you he already did it, then you get an automated Welcome to Trek email 15 minutes after the call to him. Clearly Big Dave’s focus is doing the max sales at the expense of pre-sales attention and post sales service.
