They're a fine intermediate to avoid ER and they'll tell you if they think you should escalate. I did get misdiagnosed with flu once despite a negative flu test (turns out I had a kidney infection.) I'd go for sprains, throat cultures, lacerations, but nothing serious. Definitely call ahead to find out how long you'll be waiting.
