My husband and I called Rooter-Man out of necessity, as we had been unable to flush our toilets for 3 days, and the plumber our home warranty provider finally referred us to on a Friday did not return our multiple calls or VM's, and we found out was not open over the weekend or for emergency repairs. One of the workmen they sent out, who arrived 3 hours after the window they had provided us, tried to physically intimidate me. When I allowed I ran to the door to let them in, my 7 year old son had forgotten not to flush our 2nd floor toilet, and it had caused the 1st floor toilet to overflow onto our tile, soaking through the grout to the basement below, and spreading onto our cherry hardwood floors in our kitchen, 3 feet away. I was desperately trying to scoop saucepans full of sewage out of the overflowing toilet, and run them into the kitchen to dump them in the sink there, which is very deep, before it caused permanent damage to our hardwood floors. I had multiple towels down trying to staunch the flow, and our son, who is on the autistic spectrum, was upstairs sobbing his eyes out b/c he had forgotten and flushed the toilet, and J was trying to verbally comfort him. The Rooter-man, who was twice my size, stepped into my personal space and said menacingly: "If you don't take us to the basement now and let us see the problem, we'll leave. We have other clients to get to." My son was screaming and raw sewage was still overflowing onto my floor, and had spread into the kitchen. Not the type to be intimidated, I moved even closer to him, so we were 1 foot apart, and retorted: "And if YOU don't give me 2 minutes to get this situation under control, when you were 3 hours late arriving for your scheduled window, I will "accidentally" drop this saucepan of raw sewage filled with 3 day's worth of poop onto your pants and boots. Your choice." He obviously believed I meant it, b/c he backed up so fast, he hit his head against the basement door. It was kind of hilarious. But I can't STAND anyone who tries to bully a woman with their size and masculinity. He waited, without speaking to me, while I emptied the toilet enough to prevent any more overflowing, and mopped up the sewage that had leaked onto our hardwood floors, so there was no more chance of damage, then I les him and his companion down to our basement & showed them the overflow valve from our septic that had to be snaked. I then went upstairs to comfort my poor son. I took some secret pleasure in the fact that the sewage had leaked through the grout in our bathroom and dripped on their heads the entire time they were working. The other contractor was kind. But the one who had tried to physically intimidate me didn't speak a word to me for the rest of their visit. I HIGHLY doubt a woman half his size had ever stood up to him that way before. Maybe he learned a lesson that day.
