Recommend seeking a second opinion for complicated procedures

My wife and I have been bringing our pets here since 1988, they have taken care of four dogs, and at least as many cats over those years, and have always done a great job. Over the last six months, a minor thing has been allowed to fester and go unresolved by them, and it may result in my having to find a new vet for our current dogs. We had our older dog in to do some needed elective surgery (removal of bunch of bad teeth.) A preventable accident happened as he was coming out from under the anesthesia, and the vet ended up calling us and telling us what had happened, and telling us that she need to bring our dog to the Mass Vet Referral Hospital (MVRH) in Woburn (a great place by the way for serious problems.) They put him under anesthesia again there, and fixed the problem. So far so good. We did have to go to MVRH to pick him up in the evening, and wait a long time etc. etc. We paid the $2000 bill for the work performed in Winchester immediately. Then the wheels came off their customer care. I got this odd phone call from the office manager telling me that their insurance company would be paying the bill for the MVRH visit, and if I had any questions, or concerns to call her. What has ensued is a protracted war between me and their insurance company. They may have healed my dog, but they are making me sick! Six months later, they have still not paid the MVRH bill. It turns out Winchester Vet Group is no longer a little local business owned by the practitioners we used to see. It is just a little powerless cog in some cold corporate monolith, with rigid “our way or the highway” rules about how they resolve issues. Mind you, until the last go-round this week, I had not asked for any extra compensation, but I refuse to sign (and notarize!) any legal restrictions on my own behavior, when I am not the entity that messed up. (Disparagement clauses, clauses preventing me from revealing that they paid for the extra treatment, etc.) The way I look at it, they have burned up 35 years of well-earned good will in the last six months. I may be a stubborn SOB for not signing their stupid contract, but I am not the one who did anything wrong, why should I have to sign anything, when I am getting nothing back? And by the way, the MVRH bill is less than the bill we paid ourselves six months ago.
