When calling around to sources of eyeglasses rated high for quality, I checked in with Colonial's Bethesda location for a base quote on lenses (in case we brought our own frames). I have in front of me a detailed description of the prescription, the coatings needed, the index on the lens, and the preferred manufacturer of lenses. I was not able to get someone on the phone who would say anything other than "we need to *see* the prescription" before we can give you a quote, "b/c there are too many variables". Since this was the first of the five businesses I have called that could not give me a quote, I crossed this business off my list and moved on.

Yes, quality lens but very high prices and this is not for highest end lens manufacturers. They will push you to Varilux at a high mark-up when the superior lens might be Zeiss. Their frames are made under different designer brand names but mostly come from Essilor Luxottica, which controls most of the global frame market. Also, I found that the staff was superficial in its industry knowledge, while being quite nice and social. But, when it comes to eyeglasses, substantive knowledge is important.

Excellent optomistist, however staff attempted to charge a specialist copay instead of a vision exam copay, which was improper. Initially asked staff for frames/lenses to be within my plan coverage, however was attempted to be upsold ($450+ after glasses coverage). Not a good feeling at all about this place of business.
