I've been going to MVAH since about 2006 when Dr. Neuman owned the practice. In 2014, Dr. Bennet took over the practice and I've continued to have great service (2 previous cats and 2 current cats). Even though there are a number of vets closer to my home, I originally chose this veterinary practice because they are AAHA accredited (only 11% of vet practices get that voluntary accreditation). That means they go the extra mile. I firmly believe the recommendations she makes are what she would do for her own pets, and if there are alternatives she explains them along with the pros and cons. In any event, she leaves the decision up to the client. One of my cats recently went blind and she recommended I take him to an ophthalmologist and ultimately the decision is to remove the blind eye since there is no hope of him recovering sight. The ophthalmologist did some blood work and x-rays in preparation for the upcoming surgery and prescribed a pain medication to give my cat before the surgery because of the pressure in his eye. He e-mailed his report to my vet and at the end of the day I got a call from her because she wanted to tell me that she thought the ophthalmologist prescribed too high a dose of the pain medication (about two to three times what she would normally prescribe) and that the level of medication will really put him out. My cat had not eaten well for a couple of days before that and after I got home from picking up medication to help stimulate his appetite, he could barely walk 15 feet before collapsing to the floor (so the combination of not eating well for a couple of days and the medication really knocked him out and I was afraid he was is serious danger. I was able to make an appointment for a couple of hours later after I got home. Her staff worked to fit me in to her schedule. She offered three alternatives to the level of pain medication the ophthalmologist prescribed and I choose one. She also informed me that I could still continue with the same medication but cut the dose in half to two-thirds. I think her calling me last night and fitting me into her schedule today (within a couple of hours) shows how much she is concerned about her clients and patients. As long as I have pets, I will continue to go to her practice (half hour trip one way). She does care about the pets and clients and considering all of the costs of operating a practice (one that is AAHA accredited), I think the services are well worth the price.
