I contracted ATD for weeding and mulching service for a garden they had planted three years ago. While the workers were prompt and neat, I subsequently noticed a considerable amount of healthy plants had been removed or cut to the ground. I contacted the owner via e-mail, and included before and after photos, but received defensive replies ranging from "there were a lot of weeds" to "the plants had died back before they started work," to "they'll grow back" to "we can't be responsible for plants we don't know were there." No apology, only an offer to provide additional plant material on my dime at wholesale cost. ATD did good work when they initially designed and planted the garden, but lost my trust with their unwillingness to take any responsibility, while doubting my word and discounting the timing of the "before" photo. This all could have been avoided if I was made aware by the estimator or by the crew during the weeding that some of the plant material would have to be removed or cut back.
