In the hotter air conditioning months of mid May til September, the temperature on the thermostats for the air conditioners seem to be set way too high, plus there is also inadequate air circulation for comfort. For example, went there Monday July 1, 2019 at 2PM (outdoor temp was 86F with a dry dew point of 55F), and was required to surrender my entire key ring to check in. I asked Heather behind the desk why they would not allow me to check in but had to give up my key ring to them to do so, and she said her superiors wanted more interaction with the customers. So I started interacting with her by explaining that often when I go their fitness centers, it is way too warm, humid and stuffy for me to do my jogging routine, which is 5 mph for 40 minutes for 3.5 miles. Then Heather told me that the temperature was 64F. I thought that was great and asked to see the thermostat myself, and she said that it was off limits to customers. I asked her to check it for herself right now, and she looked thru a window into the employees room and confirmed that it was 64F. I started jogging for 10 minutes and started to sweat profusely and feel uncomfortable and then stopped as a result. I went back to Heather and told her it seemed much warmer than 64F and asked if I could see the thermostat, and she again said 'NO'. I asked to speak to the manager, and she said "he is not here at the moment'. Shortly thereafter a trainer entered the employee room and closed the door. I knocked on the door, he answered, and asked if I could see the thermostats. He said "YES' and sure enough, they were all set at 70F, including the one for the treadmill area. I reapproached Heather and told her what I saw and she then said she did not know what was going on, and that I was the only customer complaining about the temperature. I told her that I was very uncomfortable and was sweating profusely and that it did not feel at all like it was 64F. As a result, I ended up leaving in disgust after only completing only half of my routine because it was so uncomfortable. This kind of stuff has happened to me frequently at this and at several other Planet Fitness locations. They seem to promote saving a nickel on their electric bill far above customer comfort or providing something adequate for the customer. It also seems to be their Trade Secret or company policy to have the thermostats in an inaccessible location for customers to view, and to then be dishonest in telling the customer what the actual temperature is. Although they have tiny ceiling fans at about 12 feet off the ground, and although they look nice, they do not ever provide me with any appreciable circulation as you have to be directly underneath these tiny fans to feel their effects, and essentially none of their equipment is directly underneath one of these. I would like to bring in my own fan to clip onto the display of the treadmill, but they refuse to let me. It is a shame that they spend so much money on rent, equipment and staff salaries, but still do not seem to be able to deliver something fit for use. If you plan to use this facility for casual use, socializing, or stretching out, you should be fine and my above comments regarding discomfort may not apply. But if you plan to jog (or use the cycles, elipticals or rotating staircase) and get your heart and lungs working for more than 10 minutes or one mile, then this place may be unsatisfactory during the hot months of summer in DC.
