How to Choose a Window Installer
Last updated November 2019
Choosing a good installer is as important as choosing the right windows. We receive a disturbing number of complaints from consumers regarding window installation work, often about companies that advertise heavily. Many complaints are about sloppy work.
The ratings of local window installers we report on our Ratings Tables can help you avoid many problems. These ratings come from our surveys of area consumers who are primarily Checkbook and Consumer Reports subscribers, but also from a random sample of other local consumers we invited to rate local service providers. Our Ratings Tables report survey results for companies that received 10 or more ratings. The tables report the percent of each company’s surveyed customers who rated it “superior” (as opposed to “inferior” or “adequate”) for our survey questions “doing work properly,” “promptness,” “letting you know cost early,” “advice on service options and costs,” and “overall quality.” Our Ratings Tables also report the percent of surveyed customers who rated each company “adequate” or “superior” (as opposed to “inferior”) for “overall quality.” Click here for more information on our survey and other research methods.
Our Ratings Tables also report counts of complaints we gathered from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for a recent three-year period and complaint rates relative to the volume of work companies do. Click here for more information on reported complaint counts and rates.
