I tried to get 3 estimates for minor deck repair (a couple of side rails replaced) and stain & seal with a solid color for a 26 year old deck that needed some attention before major repairs would be needed. I choose Rick's because they came in the middle of the pack ($1300 - the railing is intricate and not just straight posts) and they were prompt and professional with email, texts, credit card app, etc. One guy came out to do the estimate assessment, but another guy came out to do the work a couple of weeks later (one day for power wash/ bigger repairs, and then a day 2 for minor repairs and staining). The quote was well done and I had to wait a couple of days to get someone to respond that I wanted them to do the job. I know they are busy in the summer. The young man who came to the house was nice and professional in his demeanor. However, my complaint concerns the quality of his work. He used a small 6" roller brush to paint the rail pickets and missed many areas. He did not take a paint brush to get up in the 90 and 45 degree corners to get the wood covered with stain. He even missed some of the easy straight parts. He had me buy 3 gallons of stain and ended up using 1 and a half gallons. I even had him go over and paint a couple of small areas before he left. The next morning I had to take the left over paint and spend 3 hours touching up his work to get all of the wood on the pickets and rail fence covered with a brush. At first he replaced some small pieces from the railing and had a drill, but the drill batteries were dead and he didn't have a charger, so I had a drill. No big deal. But by the end I had to give him a pole so he could use a roller for the deck floor and adhesive caulk for the deck post caps. He also did not install the deck post caps correctly. The caps came with 3 install frames and you're supposed to only screw one frame in. He screwed all 3 frames into the cap and put a big blob of adhesive underneath the cap. The next day I realized the adhesive did not even touch the cap and I could easily lift all of them off the posts. Also the adhesive was too old and would not have secured anything down. So I had to unscrew all the extra frames out of the 10 caps and screw back in the properly sized frames. I found better adhesive and realized the "glue" only needed to be placed on the 4 frame corners to become secured to the post. This took me another hour and a half. $1300 was too much to pay, but deck builders don't want to do stain and repairs. Handyman do not want to do solid stains, just transparent or semi-transparent. They also don't want to replace boards in the summer when they're busy. I should have done the work myself (probably only one post we couldn't replace ourselves) or taken the more expensive quote from King's. You could tell that King guy knew decks, had good consistent ratings, etc. but he was very expensive. Work done late July, 2018.

This business is now being operated by a man named "Brandon". Brandon agreed to replace a vanity top at a rental property. I gave him all of the information to contact the tenant and make arrangements for the work. He failed to follow up. He did not respond when the tenant initiated calls to get the work done. Non-responsive. I suggest you avoid this business.
