Grossly expensive and sloppy work. I contacted Rtec to trim approximately 130 feet of hedge. Even though it was discussed during the site visit, 30 feet of hedge was left out of the proposal. So, I ended up paying $1,400 for trimming 100 feet of hedge. The job was sloppy and unattractive. I sent pictures showing the poor work and asked them to fix it. I got a very condescending response saying, in effect, that he was the arborist (and I was not), and that, in his expert opinion, no further action was necessary.

We use RTEC for tree and shrubbery maintenance. I found there is a learning curve when working with RTEC. Initial discussions and services tend to be somewhat generic, but as their arborist becomes more familiar with your particulars, the dialogue comes into sharper focus, and the suggestions and solutions seem more specific to your yard, trees, shrubbery, and their history. After each visit (we are on a maintenance and surveillance schedule) we receive an analysis of our plantings, accompanied by photographs clearly depicting disease or other problems, along with treatments and/or solutions applied or recommended. The arborist is willing to answer questions and make recommendations while onsite. Prices are comparatively high, but the firm is ethical in avoiding hidden charges or skimping on service or materials. They offer a number of "preventative" services and treatments via email; it's up to you to decide what you really need/want. RTEC's regular newsletters do provide examples (including photos) of problems (disease symptoms, pest damage, etc.) that you can be lookout for around your property.

We have mostly been very satisfied with Rtec, but when we recently had some trees pruned, the technician did not recognize that the tree had started failing. So we ended up paying for the pruning as well as for having the tree removed. They adjusted the removal price, but it was still quite substantial. I suspect their prices are on the high side, but we have been using them for years and have been reluctant to change.
