Dr. John Clifton is very caring and works hard as a sole practitioner.

Based on what I saw in Consumer's Checkbook, this was the least expensive vet practice near me that wasn't a chain like Banfield (I can't recall if Banfield and the like were listed in Consumer's Checkbook, but the reviews of them on other websites were bad enough that I was hesitant to consider them regardless). I thought I'd give Tysons Corner Animal Hospital a try. So far the level of veterinary care seems fine, and combined with the lower prices, that's a win in my book. The downside is administration is probably the worst of the vets I've been to. In fairness, admin at my last vet was also going downhill *and* they were expensive, at least TCAH is a little cheaper. "You get what you pay for" is better than "I'm getting ripped off"--not a resounding endorsement, but if you're willing to be persistent with things like bills or prescriptions, then TCAH is not a bad option. Their level of customer service is still light years better than something like Comcast. I am still very much on the fence on choosing between "Recommended" and "Not Recommended". I chose the latter not because of the admin (which, right now, is at a point I'm still willing to put up with), but the combination of that and the owner's responses to online reviews. Yes, many of the reviews he responds to are incredibly lame, and Yelp/Google should make it easier for business owners to remove especially frivolous or inapplicable ones. But not all of them are, and his responses are borderline unprofessional, even to the minority of reviews that seemed to have legit complaints. From what I've seen he is not that way in real life, but it does make you wonder how he'd react if you did have some kind of disagreement.
