Contractor was hired due to very good reviews on Angie's List. (Could not find any information on Checkbook.org.) He also seemed to have the proper knowledge to install a sloped concrete driveway. Signed the contract for $20K with $5K down, but eventually, he requested 90% to fund the concrete pour, which he claimed turned out to cost significantly more than budgeted due to concrete shortage. Pour was delayed by a week--he claimed the concrete company did not have his order on file, then further claimed that he could not locate enough finishers for that day. The concrete was finally poured in early October, about one month after he started. Even though there is a substantial amount of work yet to be done (applying concrete stain and sealing the driveway, plus small repairs such as new siding and drainage repairs), he has come only a handful of times since then, and it was basically to "try out" a couple of concrete stains. I did convince him to accept credit card payment via Paypal, so I have some recourse which I intend to take. Please also note his BBB rating is a D minus, with one complaint closed out due to non-responsiveness.
