If this is a 5-star rehab facility according to online ratings, one of the best per Kaiser as well, I despair about the conditions at other facilities. My mom was there for at least a couple of weeks after a stroke. Facility was clean and tidy, but rooms are double and are very small, barely enough room for a wheelchair next to the bed, and woe unto you if your roommate likes to talk all day to you or on the phone and always has multiple family and friends in the room--not easy to relax or sleep. Staff was always pleasant and helpful when my sisters or I encountered them or went looking for them, and gentle and helpful with mom; meals always seemed to be decent and appropriate; but requests for things that needed repair or attention went into the maintenance request list and didn't seem to get done. Mom was bed ridden while there, and her TV never worked correctly no matter how often we reported it. Other than for her short daily physical therapy sessions, she never seemed to be moved from the bed. Felt like she was warehoused. She seemed to improve the first 2-3 days and then went downhill. We finally pulled her out against the doctor's and staff's recommendation as she became weaker and less coherent. Came home with a resistant bladder infection. We were lucky to have a sibling who moved in from out of town to take care of mom and she has improved greatly over time at home. Conversations with admin about contractual requests for info that we didn't want to supply or requests for copies of things were painful.
