Fred of Kitchen & Bath Studios (K&B S) nailed it, which I can appreciate because I’d also explored other options.

At first I figured cabinets would be simple and inexpensive, because there would be so few of them (small kitchen), and because I wanted basic white. The Merillat quote was about $13k, which seemed fine, but looking closer it was clear an upgrade would be required, since I wanted ¾” plywood frameless with 170-degree hidden hinges, the Hafele/Kessebohmer Magic Corner II (no room for a lazy susan), and some custom dimensions.

Fred recommended Christiana, which, although not his top-of-the-line cabinet, did have all the options I wanted and then some, such as paint that will match any Benjamin Moore color. The Christiana quote was about $26k. That seemed high, but compared to the Wood-Mode quote of about $41k, not so bad.

My architect and I had already decided the floor plan, appliances, counter top, lighting, etc, so Fred didn’t have a chance to do any design on my project, but he did select the right cabinets, take care of the details to ensure everything would fit, and suggest the appropriate contractor. A couple of small glitches were discovered during installation, and he had them fixed.

One quirk with K&B S is that they do hand-drawn sketches of the kitchen design, instead of using 3-D computer software. Not necessary, in my opinion, but it does look good, providing a preview of the aesthetics of the finished kitchen and setting expectations, which, happily, were exceeded.

Extraordinary! Also used their design services in addition to buying cabinetry.
