If you’re a class action plaintiff attorney in search of Cy Pres designees to serve your silent class members, nonprofit Consumers’ Checkbook is an excellent candidate.

We’ve been advocating for consumers since 1974 by educating them about how to get fair prices, alerting them to scams and unscrupulous business practices, and warning them about bad actors.

Checkbook has a public-service mission. Our researchers, reporters, analysts, and undercover shoppers work nonstop to collect data—including gathering prices from tens of thousands of businesses each year—while at the same time our loyal members write reviews based on their real-life experiences. Together, we create a unique, 501(c)(3) organization that empowers consumers to save money and make smarter choices.

We cover the full range of consumer issues, including health care, privacy, investments, technology, automobile safety, home contractors and service providers, insurance and warranties, travel, identity theft, product safety, and personal finance.

We Rate Local Services

Our publications and website rate hundreds of consumer services for subscribers in seven major metro areas—the Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, Seattle, Twin Cities, and Washington, D.C., areas.

Our exclusive ratings let the chips fall where they may. Rated companies can’t buy top spots in our rankings—because they’re not for sale. We constantly screen ratings to prevent businesses from gaming them. And we accept no advertising, because we work only for consumers. Instead, we rely on subscriptions and donations from individual consumers and Cy Pres awards.

Nationally, Checkbook.org gives all consumers free advice and resources to help them avoid trouble.
