When we moved to Gainesville, VA from Falls Church, VA, almost 6 years ago, we looked for primary care doctors in in the Washingtonian Magazine for Gainesville. Dr. Alok Gupta, Internal Medicine, was listed as a Dr. other Doctors would go to for treatment. I have gone to Dr. Gupta since Winter of 2008/2009. When I started I was on Azmacort and Combivent for slight breathing problems related to asthma and emphysema related to smoking 15 years when I was young. In both my first and second visits, Dr. Gupta spent a lot of time listening to my lungs. After about the third visit, he asked me why I was on Azmacort/Combivent medication. I told him my prior M.D. and put me on them. Dr. Gupta asked me if I had ever taken a Pulmonary Function Test that measures oxygen intake and /exhalations? I replied 'no'. He had his nurse give one that morning. The test took about 15 minutes. The nurse made me 'work' hard at the test. Upon completion, Dr. Gupta checked the results and told me I had no problems in my lung function, that they were clear and worked perfectly. He took me off both asthma inhalers. Over about a week my overall feeling of wellbeing improved dramatically. Dr. Gupa is an excellent diagnostician. His staff of two nurses have been with him for a long time and are efficient in themselves.
