I called Star Plumbing after a neighbor's recommendation to remediate a botched toilet install by another plumber. A guy named Mark is the owner. I never met him, but he was professional and to the point when I explained my problem left by the other plumber. He sent over 2 experienced plumbers, and they had to chip away some tile to get this toilet even with the floor and not sitting an inch up on a cement riser bed. No other major floor/concrete removal was necessary, but they previously warned me this could be a big problem until they got to my house to see it. The toilet worked fine when they left - one plumber made sure it flushed properly and reflushed a couple of times. I even flushed it before they left and it worked fine. But the next day the toilet would not refill properly after a flush. I messed with the flush valve, but it was a bit different than the older Flush Masters. This valve had this new cylinder tube that you can lift up to force a flush. However, even after adjusting the float and trying to make sure no debris was stuck under the cylinder, etc. per YouTube videos, the flush valve did not work properly. Hours after a flush, it would not refill immediately. Then the toilet would run intermittently and over the next few hours refill again maybe. I called Star again and they came out and replaced the entire toilet innards. They charged me as a continuation and not the standard $200 just to show up fee. Since it was a 1.6 GPF toilet I had to order from Lowe's (you can only buy a 1.28 GPF on the store floor) - our only thought was the float just got old sitting in a warehouse (it was an expensive one piece) or was damaged by the previous plumber who botched the job. Not sure. It was the toilet from hell and cost me a fortune but now works properly.

Today, Star informed me that they do no provide service to the 22314 section of Old Town Alexandria due to the size of their trucks and narrowness of the streets.

I had used Hooks Plumbing, but their prices doubled and I paid $400 to repair a leaky bathroom sink. Star plumbing gave nice recommendations to redo a gerry-rigged cutoff on side of copper pipe to a refrigerator, replacing it with an under sink cutoff to the refrigerator -- good idea. After a decade with Hooks, I have now switched to Star Plumbing.
