I ordered a piece of furniture on 1/22/13 and was quoted delivery in April. I hesitated as I needed the item by May, but since I was told April, I paid a deposit and ordered. I called on April 5 to find out when the item would arrive and was told "July 15". On April 6 I got a call and was told "it will arrive in May". On April 8 I got a call and was told "it leaves (Italy) at the end of June". I was told I could cancel but would lose my deposit (half the price of the item).

I was promised an April delivery. I paid my deposit based on that promise. They broke their promise but I'm not eligible for a refund or any other consideration.

I understand that special orders are non-refundable if you change your mind, don't like it, etc. However, I don't think it's good business or fair not to offer a refund when the seller can't meet their obligation. Additionally, when I was speaking to the salesperson about this she made a comment like 'when I tell people 6 months they don't order'. Shame on her for not being completely honest at the time she quoted an April delivery.
