We contracted with American Pest for two services - outdoor mosquito control and indoor pest control. We were with them for more than three years, paying approximately $2000 for both services. The mosquito control was inadequate. We have a large, hilly yard. The technicians would spray parts of the yard, despite being charged for that service based upon our total land area. Also, it did not eradicate other lying pests. We terminated that service last spring and are now using a different company. The second service involved mice/rate abatement and control for the interior of our house. It also included service to eradicate indoor pests. We developed a serious moth problem two and a half years ago. They have made minimal progress in controlling this problem. Scheduling them to come was a nightmare. Waiting to speak with a customer service representative often included 10-5 minute wait times. Customer representatives were oftentimes rude. Appointment times were often given on a 8-m to 6 pm window and required me or my spouse to stay home all day long. After objecting to this, service times were scheduled giving a four-hour window. For follow up requests, we had to make a separate request each time as opposed to scheduling multiple visits with one call. The moth issue has gone on for two and a half years without a complete resolution. When follow up treatments did take place, technicians would often times arrive unaware of the history of the problem and show up unprepared to address the problem. For instance, they often would try to set traps to determine if the problem existed m, as opposed to actually applying any treatments. Over the course of the last four months, we have been billed for service but have yet to see a technician, granted we have not made a special request for them to continue the moth eradication process since such requests require a serious time commitment and being placed on hold. After terminating our contract with them today, I received a follow up call from a customer service rep asking if there is anything that they could have done to improve our service. Frankly, after 2.5 years of dealing with the problem, we are just exhausted. This call came years too late. They should have monitored the situation from the start to determine if progress was being made. Scheduling an appointment reminded me of the movie “Groundhog Day” since the customer rep taking the call would ask the same set of questions each time I called. And our cancelling the contract for outside mosquito and pest conteol should have given them a “heads up” that we were not satisfied with their service.

I had been a Capitol Pest customer and really enjoyed the quality and price of the service. American Pest bought out Capitol Pest a few years ago. It's now too big of a company and the customer service is not reliable. I have a service contract with American Pest and when I had a recent issue with yellowjackets in my house I tried to get a tech out to visit. They failed to show up for apointments and now I'm looking for a new pest control company. They are just simply unreliable.

We used American Pest for several years in our Silver Spring home. We had originally contracted a different service named American Pest, but they were bought out by the current American Pest, and out of inertia we continued with the new company. A technician would make a house visit every 3 months to block area where pests could enter. They were largely successful at keeping mice out of the house, but last winter we heard a large creature(s?) running in our attic and walls. The technician told us there was nothing they could do once the animals entered the house, other than setting a mousetrap. Then in the summer we were infested with ants and house flies. I looked at what we had paid them and how much time they spent in service at our home and realized we had paid $454 for 82 minutes of service. We canceled American Pest.
