Culpepper has ended its assisted living program, which was only one of two in Arlington, VA, and one year after county government awarded them a $1M grant/support. This "non-profit" appears to be going corporate; their web page cites multiple corporate advisories, there are several consulting companies, and they do not have a completed report on finances on Charity Navigator. Some staff are kind and helpful. Some staff never return calls or emails and you have to chase them down. The independent living apartments are nice and maintenance is pretty good. Biggest flaw is only six visitor parking spaces, and they aggressively tow any cars parked in resident spaces (which is understandtable). They tell visitors, including nurses, health aides, cleaners, etc., to "find parking on the public street." Very difficult to do sometimes.

This may be one of the better options for low-income assisted living in or near Arlington. That said, the quality of care I have observed for my mother in the past few years has declined. There has also been a challenge with staff turnover and communications. The annual certification process is also opaque and always results in most of a parent's income going towards rent and services. Not terrible, but not ideal.
