The old adage "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" is very much true of Sunrise Fair Oaks. Because my mother-in-law is generally friendly and polite, and doesn't complain, she tends to get only minimal attention. The things that absolutely need to get done (medication, meals for example) do get done, but checks on her health and well being beyond that tend to get ignored. Complaints or requests to the staff by my wife sometimes get acted on, but are more often ignored.

UNTIL something bad happened. Recently, she fell and fractured her wrist. While in the hospital, it was discovered she had a raging infection, and greatly reduced heart capacity and afib. None of this was noticed by the staff, even though we had pointed out to them on multiple occasions something was wrong.

For example, she has had repeated issues with her feet swelling. This is a sign of cardiac problems, but her condition wasn't monitored. We'd ask if the staff had checked her feet, and got sort of half-hearted response, then check ourselves and find them significantly swollen.

On a related note, the doctor who works with the facility and visits rarely, Dr. Shukla, is, in my opinion. simply milking Medicare doctors. When we reported the swelling to her, she prescribed only a diuretic. Never did she examine her patient, or recommend any tests, to determine if the swelling was caused by a heart issue. While my MIL was in the hospital, Dr. Shukla didn't come by once. We recently learned there is another practice now working with Sunrise. We've switched doctors and are much happier. If you are considering Sunrise, be aware you have a choice.

On the bright side, since my MIL fell, Sunrise staff has been much more engaged, monitoring her condition much more closely. We'll see how long it lasts.

I can't really make a recommendation yes or no. If your loved one is a squeaky wheel, you'll probably find a different situation than otherwise. If you loved one IS at this facility, it will be up to you to make sure his or her conditions are properly monitored.
