We use the West Portal store. Sarah and her colleagues are great in terms of helping you pick out the best frames and backings for your item. The quality of the finished product is simply beautiful and you are glad you brought your item to them.

I am a longtime customer of both this framing shop and the other Walter Adams on Fillmore. It was acquired by new owners a year or two ago and an already very expensive service skyrocketed in price. The quality of the framing, and the choice of mats and styles seems to have remained the same (the choice of frames became somewhat limited long ago as frames themselves continued to get pricier) but the West Portal outfit seemed to offer less good esthetic advice, to my mind, than was the case under the previous owners. According to a recent edition of Checkbook, prices at Walter Adams are significantly higher than many other places in the Bay Area, so I would shop around if possible. I've yet to try somewhere new, but I"m thinking of trying some places in the East Bay. It's just more time consuming as I live in San Francisco.
