Called to have my dryer vent cleaned, explained that the dryer turns on but doesn't start the cycle., and that I wanted to try cleaning the dryer vent to see if that solved the problem. He called back promptly and came the same day. He did not provide an estimate before arriving or after arriving. I didn't know the cost until he was through working. He said he was a repairman as well and that the motor was overheating without even looking to make sure that was the problem. Other possible causes are lint buildup, a problem with the switch, an electric supply problem, a door lock problem, etc. He said to replace the dryer and to buy from an appliance store near him and to give them his card. Then he said that the vent should be cleaned anyway if the dryer was going to be replaced (not true, when a new dryer is installed, the installers replace the exhaust hose so what is the point of vacuuming it out and if he was going to do part of the job, why not do a complete cleaning and clean the dryer lint trap, etc.) and didn't try to clean out the lint trap or vacuum the dryer's interior parts to remove lint. He vacuumed the exhaust vent and charged me the full price for ten minutes of work. I got the feeling that he was overcharging me both for the amount of work done and because I am a woman and because of the zip code. The charge should be based on the work done and the materials used. He didn't provide an invoice, would not accept a credit card, and only would accept cash, a check or Venmo. He told me again to buy a new dryer at the appliance store near his location, and to say he sent me, so the store might be giving him a kickback.
