I've worked with a wide variety of vendors as a real estate investor and Realtor over the last 12+ years. Most of the folks I work with are good at what they do because I screen them on sites like this and then interview them, but I'm guilty of not writing reviews. However, if someone really stands out they deserve recognition, and I give my highest recommendation to Alberto of Montgomery Floors. If you're doing a project that involves refinishing, staining, or installing hardwood floors, you should at least talk to him. On top of being a good guy, he's extremely knowledgeable about wood and finishes, and has gone above and beyond for me when he didn't have to. He and his crew worked with us to find a way to turn about 4,000 sf of the standard oak hardwoods most of us in the DC area have into a consistently dark, modern floor without any of the zebra-striped grain you often see with bad stain work. It’s a real challenge making oak look like something with less grain variation, and I talked to probably 10 vendors about this, and 2-3 believed it was even possible. Alberto knew how to do it, had really great pricing, and then delivered a high quality finished floor that looks right at home in this $2MM+ property. Please email me if you’d like some before/after pictures. I’m fickle with vendors and generally re-bid everything on each new project, but I won’t use anyone else for floors again.
