I used to be a fan of Cat & Dog Clinic of Bellevue and have referred multiple customers there, but recent experiences have soured me on their practice. During the pandemic, my puppy ate a sock. I approved a $500 ultrasound before I brought him in. He passed the sock before I got there, but they still did the $500 ultrasound even though it was no longer needed. Then, because it was the pandemic, they couldn't keep him overnight, so I got referred to a vet hospital in Kirkland, which essentially ran all the same tests again and charged me for all of them again. The overall result was a bill of $2700 that should have been more like $1000. I chalked that whole experience up to "it's the pandemic." Fall of 2023 we had another issue where the staff refused to OK a refill for a "prescription food" pick up at Petsmart without doing a full wellness visit first, despite the fact that they had just seen our cat a couple months earlier. When I contacted the head vet, the response I got was basically, "OK, you're right, and we'll change our policy, but you shouldn't have been pushy with my staff." If you read their Yelp reviews, you can see that several other customers have had similar experiences recently. For every negative review, the response from Cat & Dog of Bellevue is, "You were rude to our staff." I don't believe that every single dissatisfied customer was rude to their staff. I do believe that their staff has not been trained to handle customer complaints constructively. Overall, the vets still seem competent and caring, but I think the business practices have shifted in the wrong direction, and if anything ever goes wrong with my pet's care, I have low confidence that it will be addressed satisfactorily.

I am surprised at how expensive it is to use them as my vet for my dog. They asked me to bring my dog in, when I wanted to just refill a relatively new prescription, charging me extra BESIDES charging me then for a regular office visit. The office people are not especially friendly, but I am a relative new customer.

They gave excellent service, even with their Covid-19 protocols.
