QFC is owned by Kroger, the same grocery overlords who own Fred Meyer. Stores tend to be more compact, chaotic, and subjecting one to the "butt brush" inherent in narrow aisles with obstacles. As they are primarily neighborhood stores, selection is not as comprehensive, and I tend to use them as "Oh, merde, I need [specific ingredient] for this recipe" rather than doing my entire shopping. Checkout is tedious as they try to force people to use the self-checkout feature in favor of the one person behind the counter. The automated system assumes you're trying to rip them off, so there's a high likelihood of needing an operator intervention if you move too fast or slow. My biggest issue is the deliberately confusing pricing where an item might be advertised as "3.99" in big print, but in a font a tenth the size, there is some caveat like you have to buy five of the item, or it requires a digital coupon that you must manually "clip" or some other nonsense. Despite trying to be vigilant, over half the time I feel like I've been screwed because I missed some very obtuse requirement or they place similar products (e.g., grapes priced $7/pound) very close to the sign (advertising other types of grapes for $2/pound) hoping that one makes a mistake. I'm surprised they haven't had a class action lawsuit filed because of this.

QFC is heads above the other stores. Unfortunately there is not one near our present residence.
