They have community solar projects for people who can't do traditional solar, like renters, houses with no sun, etc. I love the idea, and I think they are good people with a good mission. But when I got in touch with them, they weren't as up to speed on billing and meter types as I would have expected. They advertise that your costs will be a certain percentage lower than what they would be with the regular electric utility. And for many (most?) people that's true. But when I ran the numbers myself, I saw that I would be paying a little more than my current bills, not less. It may be worth it to do that in order to have access to solar power. The extra money (it wasn't much) wasn't the problem. But if I'm going to sign a five-year contract, I need to know what to expect. And I wasn't confident that there wouldn't be some unpleasant surprise down the road. Again, I think they're good people with a good mission. Maybe they just rolled out too early, before they knew everything they needed to know? Now that they've had a little more time working on this, maybe they've figured it all out. So I wouldn't advise people to avoid them but just make sure to ask a lot of questions and run the numbers yourself and then decide how you feel about moving forward.
